Hello, I’m Alaina!… just your typical Midwestern girl, out exploring the world.

20-something and an August 2009 graduate from the University of Michigan. Spent the past two years living, loving, exploring and something working in Austria. By working, I mean teaching English to high schoolers. I spent the 2009-10 school year in the Middle-of-Nowhere, Austria, also known as Paradise, or Bad Aussee – the geographical middle point of Austria. Year Two, 2010-11, I taught in Graz, the Styrian capital. Both are in Styria (or, Steiermark in German) but couldn’t be more different places.

What’s next? I’m moving back to Michigan for the summer, and who knows how long beyond that. I’m trying to find my “purpose” and “passion” in life, so who knows where that will lead me! More than anything, I hope to spend most of my time exploring my lovely home state and spending quality time with my family, friends and dogs.

My favorite things include Mexican food (though it’s hard to find good stuff in Europe), beer (especially Czech beer!), the German language, reading a good book, dancing with friends, drinking tea and attempting to hone my skills as a writer.

This blog is part travel writing, part travellog, part random thoughts and daily life. Happy reading… =)
